Chromebook Protection Plan for PUHSD Families important updates

26/27 PUHSD Chromebook Protection Plan

Placer Union is proud to offer our 1:1 device program that includes the use of a chromebook as well as the option of low-cost annual chromebook protection. Like all instructional books and materials, a chromebook is the student’s responsibility. This includes costs associated with damages, loss or theft. To minimize a family’s unexpected costs, the school district offers a Chromebook Protection Plan (CPP). It strongly recommended for families to purchase the Chromebook Protection Plan.

Cost -Purchase HERE using the CHS Online Webstore

  • $30*** per year (July 1 to June 30)
  • OR
  • $100*** until graduation

Enrollment

  • Open from August 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026 - Families may purchase protection using their school’s web store or at the school office using credit cards, cash or check. It is strongly recommended for families to purchase the Chromebook Protection Plan.
  • Transfer students may purchase the Chromebook Protection Plan anytime after their transfer has been accepted.

Refunds

  • There are no refunds.

Transferring

  • If a student transfers to another PUHSD school, the plan remains in effect.
  • If the student leaves the district and then returns to a PUHSD school, the protection plan will resume.

If Damaged or Lost

  • Within ten (10) school days, report to IT staff, library staff, office staff or administration.
  • If school is not in session---i.e. summer---report to the following email: helpdesk@puhsd.k12.ca.us

If Stolen

  • If the loss is due to theft or vandalism, notify local law enforcement.
  • Present an official police report within 30 days to the school office to assist in securing a replacement.

How It Works
PUHSD pays for the cost of repair including parts and labor. While the device is repaired, the student is issued a loaner of the district’s choosing. The plan covers the loaner until the student’s original device is returned or a permanent replacement is issued. If the device cannot be repaired, a replacement of the district’s choosing is provided.

Misrepresentation
Protection may be denied if any information about the cause of damage or loss is concealed or misrepresented.

What is Covered?

  • Accidental damage, cracked screens, drops, liquid spills, submersion
  • Theft or robbery, with official police report
  • Vandalism, with official police report or school administrator incident report
  • All manufacturer defects
What is Not Covered?

  • Intentional acts of neglect/abuse as determined by school staff or manufacturer (this includes removal of protective cover)
  • Corrosion, rust or cosmetic damage
  • Lost, mysterious disappearance or law enforcement seizure
  • Loss of district-provided snap-on cover or case
  • Loss of charger (external power supply)
  • Any attempt to repair device or install software, including “jailbreaking”, installing a different OS, or removing the device from the managed domain
If Not Enrolled in CPP
A family that does not enroll in CPP is charged the full cost of repairs except those due to a manufacturer defect---i.e. battery recall. “Wear and tear '' does not qualify as a manufacturer defect. The IT department determines whether the repair is due to a manufacturer defect. What follows are repair cost levels for all chromebook models.
